Hart Design Group Leadership

Benjamin interned at Hart Engineering for (5) summers working on a variety of projects during his tenure at the University of Rhode Island. In 2011, upon graduation, Benjamin joined Hart Engineering’s staff as an Assistant Project Manager and soon transitioned seamlessly over to Hart Design. He has extensive on-site experience and has participated in the management of several projects ranging from $100,000.00 to $60,000,000.00.

Mark is a Mechanical and Project Engineer with over 25 years of experience in the design and engineering of HVAC, utility and complex mechanical systems for the pharmaceutical, biotech and chemical/plastics industries. His projects have included large scale HVAC systems, clean room design, the complete range of pharmaceutical utility systems and a wide array of unit operations and machinery (i.e. coaters, extruders). Mark combines his considerable hands on field and plant experience with a high level design expertise.

Bob is a Chief Designer, with a strong management, engineering and design background extending over twenty five years. His vast experience includes the layout and construction of biopharmaceutical and multi-product batch pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities. Bob has extensive project design lead and process design team supervision experience, from the development of overall conceptual / preliminary design scope definition through design development. Additionally he excels in BIM coordination, shop drawing review, equipment FAT, construction document detailing, construction support and qualification testing. Also, he is highly skilled in the field of flexible design, modular plant supply. Bob is detail oriented with focused attention on inter-discipline coordination and general arrangement with an emphasis on fabrication constructability, operability, cleanability, and aesthetics. He also has high level knowledge of cGMPs, ASME BPE Standard and the ISPE Baseline Guides.

Mike is an accomplished engineer with a proven ability to design and implement electrical systems that support operational and financial objectives. He is experienced in the operation of both nuclear and fossil powered power stations, the design of medium and low-voltage power distribution systems, and the design of electrical systems in support of pharmaceutical laboratory and production facilities.

Domenic joined Hart as an Architect bringing over 20 years’ experience in Architectural Design and Project Administration. For 15 years, he served as State Architect for RI, where he was responsible for the design and repurposing of State properties including his national award winning restoration of the Rhode Island State House. He was also responsible for Building Code reviews and analysis, as well as Code Enforcement for State-owned properties. Domenic was also the primary responsible agent for many major state projects including over $100 M in expansions to correctional facilities.

Mr. Wu is a structural engineer with 25 years of experience in the design of new building structures, the re-use/retrofit of existing building structures, and as well the design of secondary structures. He is familiar with most building construction types, such as steel, reinforced concrete, wood, light-gauge steel, masonry, etc. Through years of experience in the design industry and the extensive interdisciplinary collaboration, with a background in structural engineering research, he has a good understanding on how to practically put a building together. Structural projects which he has led or participated in encompassed the commercial, laboratory, institutional and industrial fields.

From his position as a Director of Engineering for Moderna, Mr. Kelly joined Hart in 2024 to head our Design Group’s Pharmaceutical Operations.  Mike brings a wealth of both project and operations experience on a broad range of technologies and facility types.

In his time at Hart, Mike has primarily focused on managing a major manufacturing expansion for a BioPharma client in Rhode Island.  Combing in-depth process knowledge with strong Management skills and experience, Mike is an asset to any project he’s involved with.   Mike will have overall responsibility for your Facility Expansion Project and will monitor schedule, costs and quality.
